    Advanced Diploma in Project Management

    The Advanced Diploma in Project Management at Tshwane University of Technology is a career-focused qualification designed to strengthen your ability to plan, execute, monitor, control and close low- to medium-level projects in a range of organisational settings. It develops integrated, applied competence across the core project management process groups and knowledge areas, helping you manage projects with confidence, structure and professional judgement.

    You will build capability in project planning and delivery through project management principles and practice, while developing the financial and commercial skills needed to manage budgets, cost risk, and project accounting. The programme also deepens your ability to manage procurement, resources, quality and risk, enabling stronger governance and better project outcomes. Statistical methods and quantitative techniques support evidence-based decision-making in complex project environments. A research methodology stream introduces you to scientific research literature, qualitative and quantitative approaches, and research ethics, equipping you to rigorously investigate project challenges and communicate well-founded recommendations.

    Requirements and Opportunities

    Admission requirements

    To apply for this qualification, a student must have:

    • A National Diploma or Diploma in Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or any other equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 with a minimum of 360 credits. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of project management experience.

    To successfully complete your online qualification, you will need:
    • A laptop or desktop computer
    • A stable internet connection
    • To be computer literate

    Modules & Credits

    Fees are paid per module. The programme will be completed over two years. Compulsory modules - 120 credits

    Fees are subject to an annual increase.

    Research Methodology A

    Introduces scientific research literature, core qualitative and quantitative designs, and research ethics. Learners build a foundation for defining a research problem and selecting an appropriate, ethically sound design to meet the intended research purpose.

    Project Management Principles and Practice

    Covers the project management framework and processes across key knowledge areas, with practical tools and techniques for planning and delivery. Students address project strategy, priorities and project organisation to support effective execution.

    Research Methodology B

    Develops applied research competence by extending engagement with scientific literature, research designs and ethics. Students refine their ability to align a research problem, methodology and ethical considerations to the requirements of the intended study.

    Project Resources Management

    Covers advanced resource planning, acquisition, management and monitoring in projects. Learners also develop capability in stakeholder management and project communications to support effective coordination and delivery.

    Project Procurement Management Principles and Practice

    Module Fees: R5,400
    Credit: 12
    Explores procurement in the project environment, including legal considerations, procurement planning and solicitation. Students learn source selection, contract management and contract close-out to ensure compliant and value-driven procurement.

    Project Cost Management and Accounting

    Develops competence in project cost management and accounting, including project finance sources, funding approaches and project selection techniques. Learners apply tools such as capital budgeting, financial modelling and life-cycle costing, with attention to value analysis and cost risk.

    Project Quality Management

    Examines quality management frameworks, tools and techniques for project initiation, planning, assurance and control. The module addresses quality standards, common challenges and practical approaches to maintaining and improving quality outcomes.

    Statistical Methods for Project Management

    Module Fees: R5,400
    Credit: 12
    Applies statistical methods to decision-making in project environments, including probability distributions and quantitative modelling. Learners explore how judgements and biases affect decisions, and use software-supported simulation and modelling tools to solve project management problems.

    Project Risk Management

    Module Fees: R5,400
    Credit: 12
    Covers risk management processes across the project life cycle in multi-disciplinary environments. Students use risk tools, techniques and analytical frameworks to measure, manage and monitor risk under complex and uncertain project conditions.
